Lycanthia, formally the Lycanth Republic is a member of the Alliance of Independent Nations located on a small island in the Coral Sea off the East coast of New South Wales, Australia. Lycanthia is a protectorate of the Republic of Arcacia.
Origin of the name Lycanthia
Lycanthia roughly translates to "Land of the Wolf." It was so named after French settlers found the island was home to dingos, a native Australian canine.
History of Lycanthia
Lycanthia was first settled in 1842 by French explorers as a stop on the route between Sydney and Arcacia. A walled city was founded in an attempt to protect it from a potential invasion from the British, which never came. It remained an overseas territory of France until gaining independence in 1929.
The Republic fell on hard times in 2009, suffering massive losses as a result of the global financial crisis. The country's debt skyrocketed and Lycanthia was on the verge of bankruptcy. In order to avert the total collapse of the economy, Lycanthia signed an amicable agreement, becoming a protectorate of the Republic of Arcacia, effective from 2010.
Lycanthia's climate is temperate/sub-tropical warm Summers and cool to mild Winters.

Lycanthia's economy is made up mainly of tourism and agriculture. There is virtually no heavy industry in Lycanthia with the vast majority of people working in the tourism and customer service sectors.
Lycanthia is a non-partisan unicameral representative direct democracy. People vote for their representatives directly and there are no political parties. The President is also voted for directly and elections happen every 5 years. The government is divided into three branches: le Sénat (legislative), le Bureau du Président (executive) and la Court Suprême (judiciary).
Lycanthia has three provinces which behave more like city councils. Each province has a governor and a cabinet. The provinces, in order of population, are as follows (capital city in brackets): Province Nordique (Châteauneuf), Province Méridionale (Anglet), Province Occidentale (Saint-Alban).
Most Lycanthians are under the age of 40, with the largest group being aged 25-39. The age group 0-14 is the second largest. Most Lycanthians list their birthplace as Lycanthia, with France, New Caledonia and Arcacia being the origins of the largest number of immigrants.
Lycanthia is a secular nation with no State religion. Most Lycanthians list their religion as Roman Catholic (68%), Protestant (12%) or atheist/agnostic (17%). Other Christians (2%), Jewish (<1%), Muslim (<1%) and Other Religions (<1%) make up the remainder.
Lycanthians are relaxed and very proud of their French heritage. Good food and wine are considered indispensable and family life is considered very important. They are known for being a very accepting and warm people with a unique sense of humour. Though French is the official language, almost all Lycanthians speak English as a second language.
Lycanthia has a rich agricultural tradidtion and there is extensive farmland, especially in the sparsely populated West.
Lycanthia's national airline is Air Lycanth and is a member of the Arcacian Airlines Group. It's fleet of 3 planes serve several destinations in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific as well as Providence, Arcacia.
Lycanthia has an extensive railway system, especially considering the island's size. The railway is operated by Rail de Lycanth, a goverment organisation and public company. Travel on Rail de Lycanth is free.
Lycanthia has no military. Defence of Lycanthia is the responsibility of Arcacia. The Arcacian Coast Guard patrols the waters off the coast of Lycanthia, along with the navies of Australia, New Zealand, France and the United States. Arcacian Police are responsible for internal security.
